Lucknow : A Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator has been booked for allegedly beating one of his own party workers in Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday.
Legislator Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit is accused of beating local BSP leader Mahendra Kashyap, who objected to the use of foul language by the former during a district-level party meeting in Baghpat, 350 km from here, Saturday.
“The case against Sharma was Saturday registered on a complaint by Kashyap, who alleged that the MLA beat him while the party meet was underway,” Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar told IANS on telephone.
“According to Kashyap, Sharma manhandled him and tore his clothes when he asked the MLA not to use abusive language for the party workers for the poor performance of the BSP in the state,” Kumar said.
Sharma is a legislator from Dibai in Bulandshahr. His brother Mukesh Sharma lost the 2009 Lok Sabha election from the Baghpat parliamentary seat on the BSP ticket.
