Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has suspended six students for indulging in violence, assaulting varsity officials and disrupting academic activities during protests against the murder of a student, the university said Thursday.
“The students were suspended for indulging in violence and vandalism. They have been barred from entering the campus,” AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told reporters in Aligarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.
The decision was taken Wednesday.
During their protests against the murder of Shahnawaz Alam, a final year B.Sc student who was shot dead Oct 25, the six students had also disrupted rail traffic and targeted public property in Aligarh.
AMU was temporarily shut down Friday following protests over the murder.
