Cop wounded in guerrilla attack in Kashmir

Srinagar : Militants Thursday shot at and wounded a police officer in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said. The policeman’s condition is said to be critical.

A senior police officer said that guerrillas fired from close range at sub-inspector Manzoor Ahmad in the Chankhan locality of the apple rich Sopore town in Baramulla district, 54 km from here.

“Manzoor was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors, however, referred him to capital Srinagar for specialized treatment,” the police officer said.

The condition of the police officer who is posted in the office of the Baramulla senior superintendent of police is stated to be serious.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The area has been surrounded by the police for searches.
