PM leads nation in paying floral tribute to Nehru

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi Saturday led the nation in paying floral tributes to the portrait of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 120th birth anniversary.

The prime minister along with the others paid a floral tribute to the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru at the Central Hall of the Parliament House.

Union Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath along with MPs and former MPs paid floral tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru, said a release issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

The portrait of Nehru was unveiled by the then president of India, S. Radhakrishnan, on May 5, 1966.

A booklet containing the profile of Nehru, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries.
