New Delhi: A Delhi court Monday reprimanded Uttar Pradesh authorities for failing to bring independent legislator Mukhtar Ansari before it and issued fresh production warrants against him.
Additional Sessions Judge Madhu Jain issued the warrants after an Uttar Pradesh police constable submitted a report on behalf of Ghazipur district jail authorities saying the accused could not be brought to the court due to his health problems.
Ansari is to appear before the court in a case under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).
Delhi Police had said before the court that Ansari was running an organised crime syndicate with Munna Bajrangi in the national capital.
Ansari, a legislator from Mau in Uttar Pradesh, is now in jail for his alleged role in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Krishnanand Rai in 2005.
The court has asked the officials to bring Ansari befor it Nov 23.
