Ghaziabad police station set on fire after man’s death

Ghaziabad: Angry local residents Monday set fire to a police station, damaged public and private vehicles and blocked traffic here to protest the killing of a 30-year-old man by the police.

The incident occurred at 7 p.m. Monday after police shot a man in Wat locality under Simbhaoli police station of Ghazaibad.

“A police patrolling team found six to seven persons gambling on the roadside. When the police tried to question them, the gamblers attempted to flee and police had to resort to firing, due to which one man, Parvez, 30, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Ghaziabad,” Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar said.

As the news of the death spread, the angered residents blocked traffic and set fire to the Simbhaoli police station.

A deputy superintendent of police and a constable sustained injuries, the police said.
