New Delhi: Five highway robbers who lured victims by offering them a ride late at night, have been arrested, a Delhi Police officer said Saturday.
Monu Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Monu, Surjeet and Sonu used to offer rides to people waiting at bus stops late at night. “After travelling some distance they used to overpower and rob the victim. And after this they threw the victims on the road,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said Saturday.
On Nov 18, the accused persons in a Wagon-R gave a lift to Thommy John near Mahipalpur in south Delhi. John had to go to South Extension. The police said after a while the suspects took out a knife and robbed him of all of his belongings.
“After a massive hunt traps were laid on National Highway-8. The Wagon-R was finally traced and intercepted near Shiv Murti on NH-8 in the night and four accused were arrested while they were in search of a new victim. Another accused was arrested after their interrogation,” Dhaliwal added.
The police said Monu was driving a Wagon-R for a call centre, which they used for the crimes.
