New Delhi : Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday sought to make light of the remarks of party colleague Amar Singh that the party’s defeat in the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-election was due to Mulayam Singh’s over-confidence.
The Samajwadi Party chief said remarks of Amar Singh, a party general secretary, showed that the party has a democratic set-up.
“There is no other issue in this,” Mulayam Singh said, responding to questions about Singh’s remarks made in a TV interview.
Amar Singh in a television interview ascribed the stunning Firozabad defeat to Mulayam Singh’s over-confidence. Mulayam Singh’s daughter-in-law Dimple was the party candidate in the by-election in Firozabad. She lost to Congress’ Raj Babbar.
In Lucknow, Mulayam’s son Akhilesh Yadav declined to comment on the issue, saying that he considered Amar Singh as his uncle.
However, striking a different note, party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said Amar Singh should speak “within a certain limit”.
