Kolkata : Tribal leader Chhattradhar Mahato, who was arrested last week for his alleged links with Maoist rebels in West Bengal’s Lalgarh area, was Thursday remanded in police custody for seven more days.
The People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) leader was produced in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court of Jhargram in West Midnapore district.
He will be again produced in the court Oct 7.
The tribal leader, who was spearheading a movement protesting the alleged police excesses in the region, was arrested Sep 26 by a Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) team near Lalgarh.
On Sep 27 he was given police remand till Thursday
