New Delhi : Taking a strong stand against the appointment of a special envoy for Jammu and Kashmir by the Organisation of Islamic Countries, a students’ group has asked it “not to meddle in India’s internal affairs”.
Non-Aligned Students and Youth Movement (NASYM) chairman Subhash Choudhury said: “Kashmir is a bilateral issue and would not welcome a third party intervention. Therefore OIC must not exceed its brief and interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation like India.”
According to an OIC official, it appointed a special envoy for Jammu and Kashmir to help bridge the gap between India and Pakistan and address the issue of minorities here. The OIC is a grouping of 57 Muslim countries.
Calling an emergency meeting of its executive members in nine countries, Choudhury said that they will discuss the situation and protest at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah for diverting attention from other important issues affecting Muslims around the world.
