EU-Brazil summit to focus on financial crisis, climate change

Brussels : The European Union and Brazil will hold their third summit in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday, announced the Swedish EU Presidency.

The main issues that are expected to be discussed at the summit are climate change and the global financial and economic crisis, it said in a statement.

The EU and Brazil established the strategic partnership at the first summit in Lisbon in 2007.

Meanwhile, Eurostat, the EU’s statistical bureau, released figures here Monday which showed that in the first half of 2009, the value of EU exports to Brazil fell to 9.3 bilion euro compared with 12.0 bn in the first half of 2008; Imports to the EU from Brazil decreased to 12.6 bn euro from 17.5 bn for the same period.

Main EU exports to Brazil in the first half of 2009 were machinery , vehicles , chemicals and other manufactured goods , while food , drink and raw materials were the main goods imported by the EU from Brazil.
