Omar says: Rehabilitation of violence sufferers a holly mission at SKICC

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah today termed the rehabilitation of sufferers of violence as a holly mission, beseeching its accomplishment in a selfless and sincere manner. “If we replace the shadow of gloom from the faces of violence rendered orphans and widows by a ray of hope and happiness, we have achieved something otherwise spending money and organizing functions and seminars are of little use”, he said and asked the State Rehabilitation Council to endeavour for pulling out the orphans and widows out of the mental trauma by inculcating hope of life in them.

Mr. Omar was speaking at a seminar on the relief and rehabilitation of sufferers of violence organized by J&K State Rehabilitation Council in collaboration with National Foundation for Communal Harmony at SKICC here.

The Chief Minister advised the duo organizations to concentrate on providing better avenues for education and skill development to orphans, widows and handicapped and encourage them to face the challenges of life bravely. The Chief Minister said that the children of deceased militants who have no connection with the violence and are innocent should not get mal-treatment for the sins and crimes committed by their fathers, brothers or other relatives. “They deserve same good treatment as those of the normal orphans and widows”, he said.

Referring to one talented footballer from Srinagar who was selected to take coaching and training in football skill abroad but was not given the passport for his father was a militant.

CM Omar said that “The boy was not even born when his father indulged in militant activities. Since the stopping of passport to the boy was against rule of law and the natural justice as such I intervened and got his passport released.

The Chief Minister said that all of us should work towards creating a society free from all forms of violence and crimes so that nobody is in need of rehabilitation on account of violence.

The Chief Minister asked the Rehabilitation Council to come up with=2 0the proposals and projects aimed at welfare, rehabilitation and education of violence sufferers so that these are reviewed and projected for funding.
