“Since all the cases (are) related to companies based in Kolkata, the UP police has no jurisdiction to initiate any investigation,” state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told a press conference here.

This follows loud protests by both Amar Singh and his political mentor and party president Mulayam Singh Yadav who sought to blame it on state Chief Minister Mayawati, accusing her of hatching a conspiracy against her most potent political adversary.

“The complaint received by the Kanpur police would be forwarded to the Kolkata police commissioner and it is up to him to register or to not register a case against the persons accused of playing some fraud,” he said.

Asked how did the Kanpur police register the cases when the matter involved offences committed outside the jurisdiction of this state, the cabinet secretary pointed out, “sure enough, we will look into that aspect”.
