Lucknow: Tension gripped a town in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjanpur district after a mob, angry after a 7-year-old boy was hit and injured by a speeding car, beat up some policemen, an official said.
Police said that the boy, Rajit, was returning home from school in Gwari locality of the district when a car hit him.
“He is critically injured and has been admitted to a private hospital,” inspector Ravinder Singh told IANS over phone.
Following the incident, some locals blocked the highway and attacked policemen who were trying to pacify the crowd, Singh said.
“Constable Anil Dixit has received grievous injuries on his head and about a dozen cops have received minor injuries,” Singh added.
