KCA gives Sreesanth final warning against indiscipline

By IANS,

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), at a special meeting here Sunday, warned fast bowler S.Sreesanth against indiscipline.

Sreesanth, who is the captain of the Kerala Ranji cricket team, has been repeatedly violating team discipline. He has also stayed away from the ongoing conditioning camp, the KCA said.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, KCA secretary T.C.Mathew said it was decided to give Sreesanth one last chance to mend his ways.

“The KCA is supporting Sreesanth despite his repeated breach of discipline because he is the only Keralaite who is an international player and hence it was an unanimous decision today that we will give him one more chance,” said Mathews.

The Kerala team is holding its final conditioning camp at Tellichery in North Kerala from Oct 12, ahead of the Ranji season, and Sreesanth reported for the camp only Sunday morning.

“We expected him to join the camp after the Challenger Series which ended on Oct 11. His nmother called me to say that he is going to Sabarimala and therefore he will report on 18th. I tried to call him but he was not reachable. Then he called me and said he wanted leave to attend the marriage of Krisnamachari Srikanth’s (chairman of selectors) son. I gave him permission with the condition that he should report at the camp.” said Mathew.

“Even then he did not report and sent a mail that he would join on 27th. Then we decided that enough is enough, and asked him to report on 23rd. He still did not show up. We had a chat and finally he reported today.”

Sreesanth, whose track record in international games has also been punctuated by incidents of indiscipline, said at the camp Sunday that he wants to stay clear of controversy.

“I informed about my absence. I don’t know who is against me,” said Sreesanth.
