Chandigarh : The Haryana government Tuesday cancelled the pilgrimage to Sikh shrines in Pakistan following a travel advisory issued by the union home ministry.
The home ministry asked Indians to avoid travelling to Pakistan in view of the deteriorating security situation in that country.
The pilgrimage to Pakistan by Sikhs, Oct 28 to Nov 6 from Sirsa, has been cancelled, keeping in mind the security of the pilgrims in the wake of recent terror attacks in Pakistan’s Punjab province, a spokesperson of the Haryana home department said.
Many devotees, especially Sikhs, go in big groups to Sikh shrines in Pakistan, especially Nankana Sahib near Lahore, the birth place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.
The birth anniversary (Gurpurab) of Guru Nanak Dev falls Nov 2 this year.
