Daya Singh, 50, Sandeep, 23, Inderjeet Singh, 19, and Krishan, 19, were arrested from Sonepat in Haryana Monday, for murdering Virender Singh, 24, in Narela area of outer Delhi last week and taking his body to Sonepat, where it was tied with a heavy stone and dumped in a canal.

The police said Virender’s wife Monday complained to the Narela police that her husband Virender was brutally murdered by her family members in connivance with other two men of their village.

“The reason behind the killing was a love affair and marriage between her and Virender. Both belonging to the same caste and village Mahara. They fell in love with each other during their schooling,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer Delhi) Atul Katiyar.

“Both of them wanted to marry each other but their family members and the villagers were opposed to it. In 2006, both eloped from their village. However, her family members lodged a case of kidnapping against Virender, who was sent to jail,” he said.

While Virender was in jail, the girl was forcibly married to Jaipal, who abused her after he came to know about her relationship with Virender.

“She left Jaipal’s house and started living with Virender in Samaipur Badli of Delhi. Later, both of them got married in Chandigarh. On Oct 17, they were called by Inderjeet at Sandeep’s home to celebrate Diwali,” Katiyar said.

“Virender was then strangulated to death by the four accused while Sandeep and Inderjeet raped his wife,” the police officer added.
