Chandigarh : Just weeks after their alliance was announced in Haryana for the forthcoming assembly elections, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Thursday announced snapping of political ties with the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC).
BSP’s in-charge for Haryana Man Singh Manhera Thursday announced the spilt with HJC at Rohtak town, 270 km from here.
The HJC, headed by former MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former chief minister and HJC chairman Bhajan Lal, was floated December 2007. Both father and son were expelled from the Congress.
The HJC had announced a tie-up with the BSP for Haryana’s assembly polls, now scheduled for Oct 13.
Bishnoi and Manhera had addressed a joint press conference here Aug 26 claiming that their alliance was solid and that they would contest all 90 assembly seats in Haryana.
The BSP-HJC alliance break-up comes just days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) snapped its ties with Haryana’s main opposition party, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
The Congress government in Haryana headed by Bhupinder Singh Hooda had last month got the state assembly dissolved seven months ahead of term and sought fresh assembly polls.
The ruling party is hopeful of cashing in on its popularity and the disarray in the opposition camp.
The Congress won nine out of the 10 parliamentary seats in the Lok Sabha elections May this year.
Chief Minister Hooda had said the BJP-INLD and the BSP-HJC alliances were just for ‘political opportunism’ and had predicted that these would break soon.
