Charges framed against student for threat mail to Kalam

By IANS,

New Delhi : A city court Thursday framed charges against a student for sending a threatening email to then president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam three years ago, paving the way for the trial.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja charged Sulabh Goyal with the offence of criminal intimidation by anonymous communication under Section 507 of the Indian Penal Code and slated recording of Goyal’s statement for Jan 23, 2010.

Goyal was apprehended by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from his home town Indore in Madhya Pradesh after a criminal case was registered on a complaint of the joint commissioner of police, Rashtrapati Bhavan, on 20 July, 2006.

According to the prosecution, Goyal had sent the email using a fake name threatening then president Kalam July 19, 2006, as a joke and to see the response of security agencies.
