Bhubaneswar : The managing trustee of an orphanage, accused of raping a resident, was sent to jail in Orissa after a local court rejected his bail plea Sunday, police said.
Byomakesh Tripathy was arrested Saturday from Chandrasekharpur area of state capital Bhubaneswar after one of the residents of Basanti Trust alleged that he was regularly exploiting her sexually.
Police also conducted searches at the orphanage and seized some obscene CDs and video cameras.
“We produced the accused in the court where his bail petition was rejected. He was sent to jail,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Himanshu Kumar Lal told IANS.
The orphanage houses twenty-four minor girls. “They all were rescued and have now been given shelter with a city based organisation,” he said.
Local residents alleged Tripathy was running a sex racket using the minor girls and other inmates. Lal said police are investigating the charges.
