No trace of schoolboy kidnapped in Patna

By IANS,

Patna : Twenty-four hours after a Class 1 student was kidnapped at gunpoint in the heart of Patna while he was on his way to school, police have failed to make any breakthrough to rescue him.

A hunt has been launched to look for the kidnapped boy but there has been no breakthrough so far, a police officer said.

Neelmani, additional director of police, said that a special team has been created under the supervision of Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Vineet Vinayak. He will be assisted by Patna Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj.

Police have raided several places in and around Patna to recover the boy, but the search has been futile so far, an official said.

Six-year-old Shresth Sanjay, whose father Sanjay Kumar Srivastav works as a zonal manager in a pharmaceutical company, is a student of Christ Church School.

He was kidnapped near the Maurya Hotel Monday morning when three armed criminals overtook the autorickshaw he was travelling in to school and forced the driver to stop.

The police have detained Ravi Kumar, the driver of the autorickshaw. They have also interrogated him about the incident.

Kumar told the police that the armed criminals forced him to stop the autorickshaw after they threatened to kill the children in the vehicle. Later, they kidnapped the boy.

The kidnapped boy’s family reportedly said that they have not received a ransom call from the abductors so far. But police strongly suspect that it is a case of kidnapping for ransom.
