Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) chief S. Samy Vellu has said ‘sorry’ for the insulting remark made by one of his party colleagues against former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad who in turn said that it does not matter.
“I will meet him (Mahathir) personally to explain the whole episode and extend my apology,” Vellu said in a statement, The Star reported Friday.
Vellu, who served as a minister under Mahathir for several years, said he would personally meet the latter to apologise for partyman Sukumaran who last week demanded that a “shoe garland” be placed around Mahathir’s photograph.
Sukumaran had taken the cue from Vellu who criticised Mahathir for ‘interfering’ in MIC’s affairs.
The incident occurred at last week’s 63rd MIC general assembly.
Mahathir said he did not feel anything about the incident and added: “Nothing would have happened to me.”
