Azamgarh: On the occasion of the first anniversary of seemingly fake Batla House encounter (19th September, 2008) Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance, Azamgarh, has reiterated its demand of judicial probe into the encounter.
While announcing to observe September 19 as Black Day, AWMEAL, in a memorandum to the district authorities, demanded that “in order to bring to light the truth, trial of Batla House accused should be consolidated in one court and proceeded through a fast track court on daily basis. This is necessary in view of educated youths involved whose life will exhaust arriving at a final judgment in the case at present snail speed of trial.”
In support of the appeal of Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association (JTSA), a delegation of AWMELA submitted a memorandum to the SDM sadar (Azamgarh).
The delegation consisting of Dr. Abdul Halim, Vice President, Dr. Salman Sultan, Secretary, Dr. Kamaluddin, Treasurer with a few supporters went to submit two memorandums to the SDM sadar in his office. The first memo was addressed to the Prime Minister through D.M. Azamgarh and was about enquiry of all fake encounters as well as consolidation of cases against Batla House accused and speedy trial through fast track court.
Following was unanimously resolved in the meeting of “Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance” (AWMELA), Azamgarh held at the office of AWMELA on September 18, 2009.
1. that in support of Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association (JTSA)’s appeal we will observe 19th September as ‘Black Day’
2. that we highly deplore cold blooded murder of an innocent girl Ishrat Jehan, bread winner of her family, and demand adequate compensation to the family.
3. that we strongly condemn all seemingly fake Police encounters like Sohrabuddin, Batla House, Manipur just to name a few and demand time bound high level probe under judicial supervision for all such seemingly fake encounters.
4. that in order to bring to light the truth, trial of Batla House accused should be consolidated in one court and proceeded through a fast track court on daily basis. This is necessary in view of educated youths involved whose life will exhaust arriving at a final judgment in the case at present snail speed of trial.
5. that we strongly condemn the delaying tactics on part of prosecution/Police force in Batla House accused trial.
The second memorandum was in pursuance of the decision taken on 13th September, 2009, in program for creating awareness for Swine Flu, held in Shibli National Inter College, Azamgarh. In the memorandum the group demanded adequate cleaning of roads and drains of the city, and condemned the loitering of swine and other animals on city roads and demanded a check on the movement of these disease spreading animals.
