Indian, Pakistani ministers hold talks

New York : Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi met here Sunday for crucial talks that were expected to focus on terrorism – marking the first high-level contact between the two sides in two months.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Krishna was expected to demand speedy action against perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The two foreign ministers had an informal chat at a working dinner of the SAARC foreign ministers Saturday evening.

The foreign secretaries of the two countries had met here Saturday to prepare the ground for the foreign ministers’ talks.

The previous high level contact between the two sides was when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, July 16 during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit.
