5 Haryana school students test positive for swine flu

Chandigarh: After the death of 12-year-old Harshita of Chaman Vatika school from swine flu Monday, five more students of the school tested positive for influenza A (H1N1) virus Tuesday, health officials said.

Harshita died in a private hospital here Monday. She had breathing problem and was on life support systems since Friday.

Chaman Vatika is an upscale residential school on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway, around 35 km from here.

H.C. Gera, nodal officer for swine flu, Chandigarh, told IANS Tuesday, that they had received the nasal and throat swab samples of five more students of Chaman Vatika school Monday and lab reports had confirmed the disease.

“We have informed the Ambala health authorities and sent the reports there,” he added.

The management of the school Sunday announced the closure of school till Diwali (Oct 17) in the wake of detection of first swine flu case in the institution.

“Our officials had visited the school to check the situation but they found everything fine. There is no need to panic and we are following all the precautionary measures,” a Haryana health official told IANS.
