New Delhi: Assam United Democratic Front president and Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri Maulana Badruddin Ajmal will address the November 12-13 Geneva convention of the United Nations Forum on Minority Issues. Perfume baron Ajmal will talk on issues of ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities in India, particularly Assam, and the plight of such minorities suffering ethnic clashes and subsequently living in long-term relief camps.
The focus of discussions at the forum are identification of challenges and problems facing minorities and states, identification of good practices in relation to minorities and political participation and consideration of opportunities, initiatives and solutions.
The forum on minority issues was established in pursuance to Human Rights Council resolution 6/15 of Sep 28, 2007. The forum provides a platform for promoting dialogue and cooperation on issues pertaining to national or ehnic, religious and linguistic minorities. The forum will analyze best practices, challenges, opportunities and initiatives for further implementation of the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic minorities.
The forum meets annually for two working days.
