UAE ministry issued 139,000 certificates of origin in 2009

Dubai : The economy ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued 139,039 certificates of origin in 2009, covering seven emirates as well as certificates issued for the Gulf, Arab and other countries.

According to statistics supplied by the Certificates of Origin Department at the ministry, there are 10 types of certificates of origin associated with various industries and standards.

Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, director general of the economy ministry, Monday said: “The large number of certificates of origin issued has contributed to strengthening the operations of exporters and in expanding to new foreign markets. The certificates enable in identifying the origin of the goods and place of manufacture, and thus assist in estimating custom rates and other associated aspects.”

“The statistics complement the directives of the Minister of Economy to contribute to the UAE government strategies, as well as UAE Vision 2021 aspects related to economic development,” he added.

The Abu Dhabi office issued 19,916 certificates, including 2,598 certificates for Arab nations, 15,390 for Gulf countries and 1,958 certificates for foreign countries.

Dubai issued 8,123 certificates of Arab origin and 51,464 for Gulf, with a total of 59,587 certificates. The Sharjah office contributed to the total figure by issuing 5,264 Arab certificates, 4,248 Gulf certificates and 3,747 certificates for other countries.

Ajman, issued 1,476 certificates for Arab countries, 8,529 for Gulf, and 280 for other countries, totalling 10,285.

The Um Al Quwain office issued 275 certificates of origin for Arab countries, 2,217 for the Gulf, and 49 for other countries totalling to 2,541. Ras Al Khaimah issued 3,232 certificates issued for Arab countries, 24,714 for Gulf, and 5,197 for other countries, totalling 33,143. Al Fujairah issued 86 certificates for Arab countries, 215 for Gulf and 61 for other countries.
