New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Monday directed Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to deseal 35 Tata Teleservices telephone towers in the national capital.
At least 35 Tata towers were sealed by the MCD as they were found to be set up without approval.
The interim order was passed by Justice Kailash Gambhir.
In petition by Wireless TT Info-Services Ltd, a company of Tata Teleservices Ltd, the company has said the civic body has no authority to seal the mobile towers and it is a violation of the Telegraph Act.
The MCD had issued notices to 1,532 cellular operators, who they claimed have set up towers without its approval, asking them to apply for regularisation or remove the towers.
On Feb 9, the civic body introduced a new policy on mobile towers by giving a month’s time to all the illegal towers to apply for regularisation.
They also increased the amount payable by the service providers to the MCD for installation of tower from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh.
