Gandhinagar : Gujarat government employees Tuesday said they will boycott the state’s golden jubilee celebrations planned by Chief Minister Narendra Modi from May 1.
State Government Employees’ Co-ordination Committee general secretary Abdul Chauhan said a meeting of the representatives of various unions of the employees held here decided to boycott the “Swarnim Gujarat” (Golden Gujarat) celebrations.
The meeting decided to stage protests at all district headquarters to press their demands related to wages, he said.
Even as the government is busy giving final touches to the celebrations slated to kick off with a mega event on May 1, the foundation day of Gujarat, the employees have decided to move in support of their long pending demands.
“Many issues of the employees with state government have remained unresolved, including the vital one of pay parity with the central government employees. These need to be resolved immediately,” he added.
The Modi government is going all out to celebrate the golden jubilee of Gujarat in a big way. A committee under the chairmanship of former minister I.K. Jadeja is planning the year-long programmes.
