Srinagar : Two guerrillas of the Hizbul Mujahideen were killed by security forces in a gun battle in south Kashmir’s Shopian district Friday, police said.
Troops of 44 Rashtriya Rifles and the special operations group (SOG) of the local police, acting on a specific tip off about presence of militants, cordoned off the Tharina (Kellar) village in the district and asked the militants to surrender.
However, the militants opened fire, triggering the gun battle, in which two militants were killed.
The operation is still on.
