“Iran and Afghanistan are building a joint border town in (Iran’s border region of) Sarbisheh, which will have abundant facilities such as airport,” South Khorassan Province’s Director-General for Economic Affairs Mohammad Ali Bijari said.

The official also called on Iranian and Afghan traders to start making investment in the border town, according to Fars News Agency.

Earlier in March, governor of Iran’s northwestern border city of Makou Hamid Ahmadian had also announced that Iran and Turkey planned to construct an industrial town in Makou.

“Based on the agreements made during a visit by the Islamic Republic’s officials to Turkey, the industrial zone and town is due to be established at the Iran-Turkey joint borders,” Ahmadian said.
