Verbal byplay enlivens Rajya Sabha proceedings

By IANS,

New Delhi : An apparently unsavoury remark briefly enlivened proceedings in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday with a Congress member engaging a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP in a verbal duel till the presiding officer put a stop to it.

It happened during a calling attention motion on the radiation exposure in a Delhi scrap market when S.S. Ahluwalia of the BJP remarked that Congress members were unnecessarily jumping on their seats.

An angry Jayanti Natarajan advanced toward Ahluwalia, accusing him of making an unsavoury remark against her. “I never said that. Don’t put words in my mouth,” Ahluwalia retorted.

The matter ended when Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan ruled that the word used by Natarajan and which Ahluwalia repeated would be expunged.
