The governing council accepted Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) offer to host the tournament, it was announced Sunday.

The inaugural edition of the tournament, featuring best domestic Twenty20 teams across the world, was held in India last year.

South Africa also hosted the second edition of India Premier League last year after it clashed with general elections in India.

“South Africa is considered an ideal CLT20 host after successfully staging the Indian Premier League and World Twenty20 tournaments in recent years. There was also a strong support for its domestic Pro20 Series competition,” Champions League Twenty20 chairman Lalit Modi said in a statement.

The venues and the competing teams for the tournament will be finalised in the coming weeks. The CLT20 governing council is scheduled to meet in May to finalise the detail for the tournament.
