“The financial business will be cleared… there is no problem,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters here.

The Congress said the government was not in danger in view of the opposition’s plans to move cut motions. “The government is comfortable and not in danger,” party spokesman Manish Tewari said.

The opposition including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the 13 party combination that includes Left parties, have decided to move cut motions in the Lok Sabha Tuesday when outstanding demands for grants in respect of the budget (general) for 2010-11 would be taken up.

Bansal appealed to the opposition to appreciate the measures taken by the government to come out of the economic meltdown and the increase in spending on social sector programmes.

The Congress has issued a whip to its members to be present in the house when the guillotine is applied on demands for grants of certain ministries. Parliamentary affairs ministry sources said the guillotine is expected to be applied at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The opposition parties are against the government’s decision to hike the prices of urea and petrol and diesel, and are expected to move cut motions on the demands by the chemicals and fertiliser ministry and the petroleum ministry.

Apart from allies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the Congress is confident of the Bahujan Samaj Party either supporting the government or abstaining from a vote. The BSP has 21 members in the Lok Sabha.

The Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal, which support the UPA government from outside, announced withdrawal of support over the women’s reservation bill.
