Indian markets end on dull note

Mumbai : Indian equities markets Monday ended trade on a dull note even as blue chip stocks Sterlite and HDFC registered handsome gains.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,692.26 points, closed at 17,745.28 points, 51.08 points or 0.29 percent higher than its previous close at 17,694.2 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,322.45 points, a gain of 0.35 percent or 18.35 points from its previous close at 5,304.1 points.

Broader market indices also closed in the green with the BSE midcap index ending 0.59 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index up 0.49 percent.

Metals, PSUs and banking stocks were among the major gainers in trade, while realty and energy scrips came under selling pressure.
