The children, all trafficked from Bihar, were rescued in a joint operation by the police, labour department and NGOs like the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) and the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

“The children were working in miserable conditions in bag manufacturing units in the Nabi Karim area of central Delhi. On a tip off, a rescue mission was conducted in the area and the children rescued,” a member of the HRLN said.

“Eight people, who were found to have employed the children, were taken into custody. The children have been sent to juvenile homes,” the member added.

The rescued children will be given release certificates under the Bonded Labour Act, which will entitle them to a compensation of Rs.20,000.
