Chandigarh: The ruling Congress in Haryana will not contest next month’s elections to various municipal agencies across the state on the party’s election symbol, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced Wednesday.

Hooda claimed that the party’s candidates would sweep the May 20 elections to the municipal corporation of Faridabad, 10 municipal councils and 28 municipal committees.

The Congress would not officially field candidates in the poll, keeping the earlier tradition of not contesting local bodies’ election on the party symbol.

But Hooda said it did not mean that the Congress would not contest the elections. Rather, it would contest with all its vigour and strength, he added.
