Raising the issue during the zero hour, Samajwadi Party leader Shailendra Kumar asked the government to stop the ongoing census operations across the country and launch a caste-based census.

He asked the government to make it clear whether it supports a caste-based census or not.

Recalling the support for the caste-based census received during the budget session of parliament, he said no caste-based census has taken place in India since 1931.

RJD MP Raghuvansh Prasad Singh asked the government for a response on the demand.

The government, however, did not respond, prompting Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav to lead a walk out of his party’s MPs, with RJD members also joining them.
