DMRC to construct Jaipur Metro

New Delhi : Taking up its first independent project outside the national capital, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has agreed to the Rajasthan government’s proposal to construct a Metro rail in Jaipur, an official said Wednesday.

A DMRC spokesperson said that an agreement to this effect will be signed Thursday in Jaipur where Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and DMRC chief E. Sreedharan will be present.

“Initially a 9.25 km long metro corridor between Mansarover and Chand Pole – consisting of eight elevated and one underground station – will be constructed by the Delhi metro,” the spokesperson said.

The underground section at Chand Pole will be only .473 km in length.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs.1, 250 crore.

The implementation time for the project is 3 years and 7 months after the signing of the agreement.

“This is the first project that the DMRC is directly implementing outside the Delhi and NCR region,” the spokesperson added.

However, he said, the Delhi metro has earier provided consultancy to state governments interested in implementing metro projects in cities like Bengaluru, Kochi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Ludhiana.
