After looting the passengers in two compartments of the General coach of the Lucknow-bound Pushkar Express, the men pulled the train’s emergency chain and escaped as it stopped near the Parichha railway station, some 300 km from Lucknow.

When the train reached the Orai railway station in Jhansi, the passengers registered a case of loot with the Government Railway Police (GRP) there.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the loot was carried out by around 10 men. Several passengers received injuries as they were assaulted by the armed men for objecting to the looting,” GRP inspector Rajendra Pratap Singh told reporters in Jhansi.

“We have registered a case against unidentified men and a joint enquiry is being carried out by the GRP police and the Jhansi district police in the case,” he said.

The Pushpak Express was coming from Mumbai.
