New Delhi : Most wells across the country have registered a decline in their water levels up to two metres, the Rajya Sabha was informed Thursday.
Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H. Pala said in response to a question: “An analysis of groundwater level of May 2010 when compared to May 2009 indicates that about 58.6 percent of the wells have registered decline in ground water levels.”
“However, 41.4 percent of the wells have registered rise in groundwater levels,” he said.
The minister said that several measures have been taken for increasing the groundwater level.
