New Delhi: Against the killings of innocent civilians in Kashmir, All India Students Association (AISA) organized a peaceful protest from Batla House chowk to Tikona Park, in Jamia Nagar on 21st of March, 2010. The march passed through the bylanes of Batla House, the place where the Batla House encounter was orchestrated on September 19, 2008.
Participants condemned the killings of innocent civilians by the army in Kashmir and the disturbing silence of P Chidambaram, union home minister, on this issue. They demanded an initiation of peaceful dialogue in the strife torn state.
AISA general secretary Ravi Rai told TwoCircles.net that, “AISA stands in solidarity with the struggle of the Kashmiri people. Democracy in Kashmir has to be restored and for that, troops from Kashmir has to be withdrawn and a peaceful dialogue process be initiated.”
“Encounters anywhere are condemnable whether in Kashmir, Batla House or Manipur,”he added.
Zahid, an artist and also a citizen of Kashmir pointed out that, the need of the hour is to
repeal AFSPA from Kashmir and North East; otherwise the Indian state cannot oppress the voices of dissent for long.
Nearly hundred students from Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia and JNU participated in the march.
