Foreign ministry holding back 11000 haj seats: UP Hajj Committee

Lucknow: Senior cabinet minister and Chairman, State Haj Committee (SHC) Naseemuddin Siddiqui on Tuesday blamed the foreign ministry for with-holding 11000 haj seats.

“They have kept 11000 seats and allotting them to VIPs and others. This quota should be immediately released to various state’s haj committee for general muslims,” said Siddiqui who was re-elected as Chairman of UP’s state Haj Committee on Tuesday at Lucknow.

Lashing out at the centre’s Haj Committee of India, Siddiqui alleged that no arrangements have been done for the accomodation of devotees in Saudi Arabia. “They have realised the enhanced charges for accomodation but till date there has been no effort at their end. Even they have not bothered to tie-up with any airlines for the travelling of hajis,” he retorted. The SHC on its part, he claimed has sent Jamil Akhtar, the media advisor to the chief minister for negotiating accomodation arrangements for the devotees from the state.

Siddiqui also informed that state government will senf 50 Khadimul Hujjaj (officials) for the assistance of devotees on state expenses. Othe major achievement include allottment of four acre land in posh Gomti Nagar locality for SHC office.

Earlier, Siddiqui was re-elected as the chairman of the SHC which also included three new members as Gazanfar Rasheed of Banda, Amt Firdaus Jahan of Deoband and Dr Syed Sultan Ahmed Hashmi Rabbani of Kanpur.
