Raipur : A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on charges of murdering three children, all under the age of 10 years, in a Chhattisgarh village, police said Wednesday.
“Mahesh (not his real name) was arrested late Tuesday. He confessed that he killed the three kids in Nimora village (about 15 km from here) Aug 20,” Superintendent of Police Dipanshu Kabra told reporters.
Also, Mahesh’s associate 15-year-old Kesar (not his real name) was arrested. He was not involved in the murder but knew how Mahesh murdered the kids. Kabra said Kesar was involved in theft in the victims’ family.
Mahesh killed two boys and a girl of the house because they saw him stealing about Rs.25,000 and jewellery.
“Mahesh knew that the kids were alone in daytime at their house. He along with Kesar barged into their house and took away money and jewellery. But Mahesh, who is also the resident of the same village, returned to kids’ house a few hours later and killed them with a sharp edged weapon. He then tried to burn the kids’ bodies,” Kabra said.
Many families of Nimora village have been keeping indoors after the murders as the terror-struck villagers witnessed a similar triple murder July 23 when an elderly woman and her two grandsons, aged below 10 years, were killed.
(According to the provisions of the Juvenile Delinquency Act, the identities of under-age accused are not disclosed.)
