New Delhi : London-based cricket website PakPassion.net, which had a special column on arrested bookie Mazhar Majeed, Tuesday distanced itself from the players’ agent saying that he only facilitated interviews with the Pakistani players.
“As followers of Pakistan cricket, the events of the past couple of days have left us all in a state of shock. We take this opportunity to clarify that the Majeeds (Azhar and Mazhar) were representatives/agents for some of the Pakistani players, and therefore facilitated interviews for PakPassion with some of these players,” the website’s owner Saj Sadiq told IANS in a statement.
“There is absolutely no other connection with the Majeeds or their organizations as far as PakPassion.net is concerned. Our only aim was to bring the voice of the players to the fans and also take feedback to the players from the fans, and we will continue to do so,” the statement said.
Mazhar was arrested, later released on bail, by the London police Saturday after The News of World revealed, in a sting operation, that the property-tycoon had taken 150,000 pounds before Pakistani fast bowlers Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amir bowled no balls in the last Test at the precise moments promised to the undercover reporter.
Pakistan captain Salman Butt and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal have also been named in the match fixing scandal.
