Action against corrupt only on evidence: Congress

Guwahati: Congress leader Digvijay Singh Monday said ministers and party leaders involved in corruption will not be spared, but action will be taken only if there was prima facie evidence.

“We are committed to fighting corruption at all levels. If ministers or others are found involved, then action would be initiated immediately,” he told journalists from Assam in New Delhi.

“But let me tell you that action would be taken only if there is prima facie evidence and not just on allegations.”

Digvijay Singh, who was recently made the Congress in-charge of Assam, Monday met state party chief Bhubaneswar Kalita to discuss strategies for next year’s assembly elections.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister is arriving Assam on a two-day visit.

“This time we would have the screening committee (for choosing candidates) meetings in Guwahati so that people don’t have to come to Delhi,” he said.
