Malappuram: The code of conduct in Islam is applicable not only to women but men also, said Jamat e Islami Kerala Amir T Arifali. Religious and communal organizations that keep mum about the moral conduct of men but talk about the code of conduct for women are having dual standards. Mr Arifali was inaugurating the closing conference of the state campaign of the Girls Islamic Organisation – ‘Woman: identity, security, society’ – in Malappuram.
Arifali said that the code of conduct was brought by religious and political organisations in the recently-held Panchayat elections when women entered the field of electoral politics in big numbers. Those who introduced the code for women were themselves unable to follow any moral code. He complained that the organizations and the media which talk about the problems of Muslim women are deliberately keeping silent about the steps taken by the Jamat in the matter. JIH was the first organisation to give representation and power for women in the organizational and publication levels.
KK Raheen (GIO state president) presided over the function. Adv Shiji A Rahman (Child Welfare Committee chairperson), P Mujeeb Rahman (Solidarity state president), Shihab Pookkottur (SIO state secretary), KK Fathima Zuhra (JIH state secretary) and EC Ayisha (JIH women’s wing Malappuram district president) spoke. Shabeena Sharqi (GIO state secretary) gave the welcome note and Jaseela (GIO Malappuram district president) delivered the vote of thanks.
The campaign was inaugurated on November 21. Various programmes were held in different parts of the state as part of the campaign. An exhibition named ‘Expos Eve 2010’ was organized at the Sarovaram Function Hall in Kozhikode which ended on Sunday.
