Chandigarh : Nearly 60,000 employees of Punjab’s power sector went on a two-day strike Wednesday after their talks with the state’s power corporations regarding pay and other benefits failed.
President of the Joint Forum of Power Sector Employees Karam Chand Bhardwaj said power corporations Powercom and TransCo had failed to implement the demands of the employees.
He said the latest round of talks were held Tuesday.
“The chief minister (Parkash Singh Badal) had agreed in April this year to our demands for absorption of the employees in the new power sector corporations after the PSEB (Punjab State Electricity Board) was disbanded. However, it still remains on paper and the staff have yet not received benefits like increments and other perks. Despite the 10-day deadline to implement the demands, nothing has happened even after six months,” Bhardwaj said.
However, Powercom managing director K.D. Chaudhary said the demands were being implemented but the process was taking time.
He said the power corporations had made alternate arrangements to ensure power supply to consumers.
