Hyderabad : Heavy rains for the past two days have forced the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) to postpone its public meeting scheduled for Thursday in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh, officials said.
The party was scheduled to hold its ‘Maha Garjana’ rally in Warangal, some 150 km from here, to mark the completion of one year of the centre’s statement on the formation of a separate state of Telangana.
The rally will now be held Dec 16, a party official said.
TRS was expecting around 2.5 million people to attend the massive show of strength ahead of the submission of the report by Srikrishna commitee, constituted by the centre to look into the Telangana issue. The report is to be submitted to the central government by Dec 31.
Heavy rains since Tuesday have badly affected the arrangements made for the meeting, with the 1,000 acre ground at Hanamkonda being reduced to slush.
TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao said the meeting would serve an ultimatum to the centre on the issue.
Former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma and social activist Swami Agnivesh will be the chief guests at the meeting.
On Dec 9 last year, following a 11-day hunger strike by Rao, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram announced that the government will initiate the process for forming Telangana.
