New Delhi : A total of 5,644 visas on arrival (VoA) were issued to tourists from five countries visiting India till November this year.
The VoA scheme, applicable for tourists from Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, was introduced in January this year as a facilitative measure to attract more tourists to the country.
According to a tourism ministry statement Thursday, of the total number of VoAs issued so far, 628 were issued in November. Of these, 90 were issued to Finnish tourists, 131 to Japanese, 276 to visitors from New Zealand, 122 to arrivals from Singapore and 9 to Luxembourg.
Of the total 5,644 VoA issued from January until November this year, 1,623 were issued to tourists from Singapore, 1,604 to New Zealand, 1,241 to Japan, 1,123 to Finland and 53 to Luxembourg, the statement said.
“During the eleven-month period of January-November 2010, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (3,035), followed by Mumbai (1,258), Chennai (1,073) and Kolkata (278),” it added.
